Venus & Venus in Synastry

In astrology, Venus doesn't only rule love... Far from it.

Venus rules everything you value, from creature comforts and money to the things you find beautiful and pleasing... Including potential partners.

Venus is also a receptive energy. Like a magnet, it attracts rather than pursues. Any house where Venus is located, whether natal, transit or synastry, will draw whatever that house rules to the native like a magnet - and it will be affected by the aspects to Venus.

In synastry, Venus works best when paired with an active, pursuing planet - Mars is great for sex, Jupiter or Sun for marriage or mentorship, Saturn for long term stability (but needs benefic aspects to work well). Pluto/Venus is also very complementary, since they rule opposing signs on the same axis. since they rule opposing signs (Taurus and Scorpio) and can create an obsessive, fated connection.

A few important Venus aspects and meanings in synastry:

  • 🔥 Venus conjunct Mars: Classic sexual chemistry. Passionate attraction and desire…especially when mutual. Sparks will fly! But it may be short lived - this is not a long-term “love” or “marriage” aspect. Mars pursues, Venus receives. This aspect alone does not indicate long-term love, but it can make a long-term relationship much more exciting.

  • 🔥 Venus square/opposition Mars: Sexual tension and friction. Can be hot but volatile. Push-pull dynamic - worse with the square. The opposition has a certain complementarity to it.

  • 🔥 Venus trine or sextile Mars: Easy attraction, mutual desire, healthy expression of affection and libido. May enjoy teasing each other a lot!

  • 🌞 Venus conjunct Sun: Admiration, affection, ego-boosting. One partner finds the other beautiful and affirming.

  • 🌙 Venus conjunct/trine Moon: Deep emotional rapport and comfort. A "feels like home" connection - if this is present in a synastry chart, it’s very likely to be a great match.

  • 🪐 Venus square Saturn: Feelings of rejection, inhibition, or unworthiness. Love feels delayed or conditional unless consciously worked through - cold and distant, like a harsh father. Love may feel star-crossed and there may be difficulties understanding one another.

  • 🪐 Venus conjunct/trine Saturn: Loyal, enduring love. Mutual respect and commitment. Steady and dependable - the conjunction is especially my all-time favorite. It’s a classic marriage aspect - they feel responsible for each other and complement each other beautifully. Works best when Saturn is masculine and Venus is feminine. If the man is Venus with the conjunction, he can feel a little domineered at time by Saturn.

  • 🌠Venus conjunct Pluto: Intense, transformative love. Can be obsessive or magnetic. Potential for power struggles or deep soul ties - incredible sex.

  • 🌠Venus square or opposition Pluto: Love and control collide. Passionate but potentially toxic. Obsession, jealousy, or manipulation may emerge, but so may intense love and loyalty. They are obsessed with each other! Works best when Pluto is a man - Venus, then, becomes his Persephone.

  • ✨Venus conjunct Neptune: Idealized love. Romantic dreams and illusions. Can be poetic or profoundly disillusioning if not grounded. See my Neptune article!

  • ✨Venus square Neptune: Deception, confusion, or projection in love. May see the partner through rose-colored glasses. Again - see more on Neptune.

  • 👑 Venus conjunct Jupiter: Joyful, generous affection. Often indicates blessings in love, social life, and shared pleasures. Great friends, they enjoy learning together and Jupiter may take on a teaching role with Venus. Conversely, Jupiter may be attracted to Venus for what she can teach him.

  • 👑 Venus square Jupiter: Overindulgence or unrealistic expectations in love. Fun but possibly fleeting.

  • ⚡ Venus conjunct or opposing Uranus: Sudden, electric attraction. Can feel like "love at first sight," but often unstable or erratic - may also be unconventional.

  • ⚡ Venus square Uranus: Commitment issues, unpredictability in love. On-off dynamics. Exciting but hard to stabilize, though they may like each other quite a bit.

  • ⚡ Venus trine Uranus: A refreshing, liberating connection. Independence and novelty are valued in the relationship. They accept each other completely and have a lot of tolerance for each other’s flaws and faults. They like each other!
